The bactericidal activity of cefotaxime results from the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis (during the period of growth) caused by an inhibition of penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) like transpeptidases, has a relatively wide spectrum of activity aganist both gram-positive and gram -negatine , it is time dependent antibiotic
Composition:
Each vial contains:
Cefotaxime sodium 5.2 gm
equi. to Cefotaxime base 4 gm
Indications:
Treatment of pneumonia in calves and lambs
(shipping fever), caused by susceptible organisms, including
Pasteurella haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida
-Foals respiratory tract infections caused by susceptible organisms
including Streptococcus zooepidemicus and strangles
-Enetritis and diarrhea due to E. coli & salmonella and clostridia
Dose:
Dissolve powder in 50 ml water for injection
to obtain a concentration of 100 mg/ ml
Horses:
standered dose Foals: 20 - 30 mg/kg IV (1.5 ml / 10 kg b.wt) I/V or I/M for 3 days
cattle 15 ml / 100 kg for 3-5 days
