Ceftiofur, a broad-spectrum cephalosporin which is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including beta lactamase producing strains. has bactericidal activity in vitro. The mode of action is that of cephalosporins, i.e. inhibition of the bacteria cell wall synthesis. After intramuscular administration ceftiofur is quickly metabolized to desfuroylceftiofur which reaches its maximum plasma concentration within 1 hour

Ceftiofur sodium 1.042 mg Equi. to ceftiofur base 1 gm

Indication:
cattle: for treatment of Bovine Respiratory Disease (Shipping fever, Pneumonia) associated with Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida and Histophilus somni. It is also indicated for treatment of acute Bovine Interdigital Necrobacillosis (Foot Rot, Pododermatitis) associated with Fusobacterium necrophorum and Bacteroides melaninogenicus.
Swine: for treatment / control of swine Bacterial Respiratory Disease ( Swine Bacterial Pneumonia ) associated with Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae , Pasteurella multocida , Salmonella choleraesuis and Streptococcus suis.
sheep & goats: for treatment of sheep/Caprine Respiratory Disease
associated with Mannheimia haemolytica and Pasteurella multocida.
Horses: for treatment of respiratory infections associated with Streptococcus zooepidemicus
Dose:
Add sterile water for injection up to 20 ml in vial 1gm to obtain reconstituted
solution of 50 mg ceftiofur base/ml.
Cattle: By IM or SC injection: 1.1-2.2 ml of reconstituted solution /50 kg b.wt.once daily for 3-5 days.
Horses: By IM injection: 2ml of reconstituted solution /50 kg.b.wt.once daily for 3-5 days.
Pigs: By IM injection: 3-5 ml of reconstituted solution /50 kg.b.wt.once daily for 3-5 days
Sheep & Goats: By IM injection: 1.1 – 2.2 ml of reconstituted solution /50 kg once daily for 3-5 days.
